About Us

The New Woodend Star is the community newspaper of Woodend & district, it is an initiative of the Rotary Club of Woodend.
The first edition was printed in June 1997 and it owes its success to the dedicated body of Rotarians and volunteers who assist in its production and distribution.

The New Woodend Star provides an opportunity for the community to be heard by presenting articles that are interesting, relevant and beneficial to the community.  It provides affordable and effective advertising for our local businesses and tradespeople which helps ensure its sustainability.

By the community, for the community.

The New Woodend Star is managed by a standing committee consisting of Rotarians and community members.

Giving Back To Our Local Area

The major part of net proceeds from The New Woodend Star are returned back into the community in a variety of ways.

Either in donations to local causes and organisations or establishing permanent features in Woodend and surrounds.

The New Woodend Star and the Rotary Club of Woodend acknowledge the Dja Dja Wurrung, Taungurung and Wurundjeri Woi Wurrung Peoples and their Ancestors as the Traditional Owners and Custodians of the lands of the Macedon Ranges on which we meet, work and live. We recognise their living culture and continuous connection to the land and waters in our area and pay our respects to their Elders past, present and emerging.
